Genzsch & Heyse is a Hamburg-based type foundry founded by Emil Julius Genzsch (1856–1906). It was later taken over by Linotype in 1963.

Plantin Antiqua appears to have had its first—and only—recorded appearance in a specimen book, likely published around 1929, based on the date shown on the specimen cover. However, the Luc Devroye online archive lists the typeface’s release date as 1913. From the original source, only a limited set of characters can be retrieved: Latin letters and numerals in Regular and Kursiv (Italic). No further information about the typeface or its designer is available. As a result, beyond its revival, Plantin Antiqua presents strong potential for expansion into a more extensive and comprehensive character set. It remains unclear whether Plantin Antiqua was influenced by Monotype Plantin. Nonetheless, the name “Plantin Antiqua” still suggests an association with Plantin’s legacy—particularly its emphasis on print quality and its use in publication contexts.
