The launch of Europe was announced in the spring of 1930, introduced as "an antique in three weights, the most beautiful, the best developed."

By 1931, Deberny & Peignot published a dedicated showcase titled Europe et le Studio, positioning it as "the face of our time" and highlighting its particular suitability for use alongside photography. Europe/Futura held a special status in the minds of both Peignot and Vox, it was considered an excellent titling face and recommended for short texts, but was not seen as a workhorse typeface for long-form body copy. In essence, Europe represents a pivotal moment in French typographic history, the point at which the geometric modernist movement, born in Germany with the Bauhaus spirit, was formally adopted and rebranded for the French market, shaping the visual language of advertising and print throughout the 1930s.
